Come experience a Spectacular Inter-cultural Performance in Tamale!

Tamale is set to witness an unforgettable evening of music and dance on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023. The prestigious BIZUNG School of Music and Dance is proud to present a mesmerising inter-cultural performance at the esteemed Wooden Restaurant from 6pm to 8pm.

BIZUNG, known for its commitment to promoting artistic excellence and bridging cultural gaps, has curated an extraordinary lineup of internationally acclaimed artists to grace the stage. The event will feature the exceptional talents of Luong Hue Trinh, Eva Zollner, Stefen Kohmann, Mohammed Alidu, and the talented members of the Bizung family.

Luong Hue Trinh,

After studying from 1998 to 2010 at Vietnam National Academy of music, Trinh graduated with honors in Jazz keyboard. In 2010, she began to work in electroacoustic music and it became her main focus.  Her works have been exhibited in museums/art spaces, broadcasted on radio, performed in festivals in Vietnam, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, India, Turkey, USA, Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Australia, Canada & UK. Her first album “Illusions” had a review and was on the list of “The best of 2016: Albums of the Year” by Avant Music News (AMN) in San Francisco, USA. She is the Finest Artist of 2019 selected by HanoiGrapevine, the only bi-lingual site of Arts & Culture Events in Vietnam.

Eva Zollner,

German accordist Eva Zöllner explores her instrument in the range of experimental contemporary music. As an internationally acclaimed soloist she appears in projects ranging from experimental solo performances to concerts with renowned ensembles. Lately she is particularly interested in the potential of the accordion within electro-acoustic music and multimedia art. Eva is based in Germany and lives as a nomadic musician, traveling around the world to explore her instrument in different cultures and contexts. this is her very first production in Tamale and she is very excited about it.

Stefen Kohmann,

An internationally active performer in the field of contemporary music. As a soloist and chamber music player, he appeared in numerous festivals around the world: Hamburger Musikfest, PASIC (USA), Fadjir Festival (Iran), Osterfestspiele Tirol (Austria), to name a few.
Stefan has held teaching positions at the Conservatory of Music and Theatre, Rostock and the Conservatory of the Arts, Bremen.

Mohammed Alidu,

Mohammed Alidu was born and raised in Tamale, into the Bizung lineage of talking drum chiefs of Northern Ghana – a lineage that dates back over 1000 years. He learned to play talking drum from his father who was a renowned drum chief in Tamale and started to perform with him at a very young age. Since 2005, Alidu has resided in the U.S. where he formed his own band, The Bizung Family Band, and has been a sought after collaborator on diverse music projects with artists such as Playing For Change Band, Alidu founded the first tuition-free music school in Northern Ghana in 2009 – the Bizung School of Music and Dance, dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the Northern Region, where he teaches for several months every year.

 

The Wooden Restaurant, a revered venue known for its warm ambiance and impeccable acoustics, provides the perfect backdrop for this enchanting event. Its intimate setting allows spectators to immerse themselves fully in the beauty and magic unfolding on stage.

This inter-cultural performance aims to celebrate diversity, foster cultural exchange, and promote harmony through the universal language of music and dance. By bringing together artists from different corners of the world, BIZUNG School of Music and Dance strives to create an experience that transcends boundaries and unites people from various backgrounds.
