Introducing Gana King Kora: Ghana’s Kora Virtuoso

Meet Gana King Kora, a maestro of the Kora instrument, whose musical journey began far beyond the borders of his home country. Although a Ghanaian by birth and hailing from Tamale in Northern Ghana, Gana King Kora honed his craft for years in Gambia, where he mastered the soulful sounds of the Kora, a traditional West African harp-like instrument.

What sets Gana King Kora apart? He is the only professional Kora player in Ghana, a feat that has earned him admiration both locally and internationally. His recent performance at the Playing for Change Day in Tamale at the Wooden Restaurant left the audience mesmerized. The energy and passion he brought to the stage during his electrifying performance were unmatched, captivating everyone in attendance.

But Gana King Kora’s influence doesn’t stop there. His skill and command over the Kora instrument have inspired the students at the Bizung School of Music and Dance. Through his artistry, he encourages young, aspiring musicians to explore not just the Kora, but other traditional African instruments, keeping the rich cultural heritage of African music alive.
