Did you know that in the late 70s and early 80s, seven out of the 12 players on the Ghana female basketball team hailed from the Northern region? These remarkable women not only excelled in the game but also gained international recognition for their skills and dedication.
Recently, three of these trailblazers—Hajia Salifa, Hajia Zenabu, and Hajia Fati—attended the commissioning of the Dr. Baba Asampanah Memorial Basketball Court in Tamale. Their presence added a touch of history to the event, and they were thrilled to witness the passion and skills displayed by young female players at the inauguration.
The Northern region has a rich potential for female basketball, and these legends’ stories highlight the need for authorities to support and nurture young talent. With the right attention and resources, the next generation of female basketball stars from Northern Ghana could shine even brighter.
Let’s celebrate these pioneers and support the future of female basketball in Northern Ghana! 🏀✨
